Articles of Faith

About Us > Articles of Faith

  1. We believe in one only living and true God, existing in Father, Son and Holy Ghost, who created and preserves all things after the counsel of His own will.
  2. Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the word of God, containing His revealed will, the only rule of faith and practice.
  3. Man was created in a holy and happy condition, but by transgression fell from that state and became depraved, and as he was the covenant head of his posterity, they are all born in a state of sin, and unless born of the Spirit, continue dead in trespass and sin, being destitute of real holiness and possessing enmity of heart against God.
  4. That the Lord Jesus Christ, who was eternally with the Father, was in the fullness of time manifest in the flesh in which he fulfilled the law of the Father - suffered and died to make atonement for sin - is the only Savior, Prophet and King - of His Church, appointed heir of all things; judge of the quick and the dead.
  5. Although the Gospel is to be preached to all nations, and sinners to be called upon to repent and believe the Gospel yet such is their opposition to the Gospel that they all freely choose a state of sin rather than enjoy the blessings of God and the gift of eternal life, but where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.  God, of His mere good pleasure, and that He might make known the riches of His Glory, He elected or chose in Christ a great multitude of all nations, kindreds, people and tongues; these through the regenerating influence of the Holy Spirit are effectually called, because dead to sin and alive to God, and being the subjects of repentance, faith, etc., having the love of God shed abroad in their hearts, freely chose Christ for their Savior, and willingly devoted themselves to His service by a life of holiness.
  6. Those who are united to Christ by a living faith, and have a full and free forgiveness of all their sins, and a complete justification of their persons, which is bestowed not on account of any works they have done or disposition they possess, but solely on account of the merits of Christ, arising from His sufferings and death.
  7. All those who are born of the spirit and justified by the imputed righteousness of Christ will persevere to the end, being kept by the power of God, through faith unto Salvation.
  8. And that the visible Churches are to be formed only of proper believers in Christ, who have given an evidence of a change of heart, and have been baptized, and whose life and conversation manifest real religion.
  9. All persons when united to a visible Church are to be baptized, which can only be done by immersing the person in water, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  10. That the Lord's Supper is an ordinance of the New Testament, shows forth the death and suffering of the Lord Jesus Christ, consisting in the reception of the bread and wine; and is also to be observed by those who have been regenerated, regularly baptized and become members of the Gospel Church.
  11. We believe the footwashing as set forth in St. John, the thirteenth chapter, to be of the ordinances of the Gospel and that it ought to be observed by all Christians, as our Lord and Savior delivered it to the disciples, and ought to be practiced in connection with the Supper, by all baptized believers.
  12. As God has appointed the ministers for the edification of the Churches, and the advancement of His Gospel in the world, it is our duty to minister to its necessities, as God may give us abilities.
  13. That the government of the Church is not to be vested in the hand of any man or number of men distinct from the body, but is to be conducted solely by the members, acting compatibly with the Constitution, Articles of Faith and Rules of Decorum.
  14. That the first day of the week, or Christian Sabbath, is to be kept holy, by attending to the worship of the Lord abstaining from all unnecessary labor.  That when time shall be no longer, the Son of God will come, to judge the world in righteousness, the bodies of all men to be raised from the dead, and be brought to the judgement seat of Christ, where the righteous will be rewarded with life eternal, and the wicked sentenced to eternal punishment.
